Tech Data Corp. said recently that Microsoft Corp. is the first vendor to sign up for its TDCloud Academy, an educational offering for channel partners interested in learning more about identifying cloud sales opportunities, marketing, deployment, billing and profitability.

Earlier this summer, the distributor initiated a practice called TDCloud intended to help channel partners uncover, develop and close sales opportunities for private, public or hybrid cloud architectures. It simultaneously opened TDCloud Academy, a tiered program providing training and resources to help channel partners capitalize on selling cloud solutions.

Through TDCloud Academy, the distributor said it will offer training and information to Microsoft channel partners interested in accelerating their Office 365 and Windows Intune cloud-related business. The program is referred to as Microsoft Cloud Academy under the TDCloud Academy banner.

“Tech Data is committed to making the transition into the cloud a seamless process for our partners,” said Stacy Nethercoat, Tech Data vice president, Software Product Marketing.

“We have recognized an opportunity in the market to step up and be the distributor of choice in expert cloud support,” she said. “TDCloud Academy provides resellers with a structured cloud training program to help them take on this new business with confidence.”

To enroll in TDCloud Academy, channel partners must register as a Microsoft Cloud Partner and list Tech Data as their distributor of choice, which gains them access to the program’s website.

According to Tech Data’s website, the Microsoft Cloud Academy consists of four tiers, each of which carries prerequisites that must be met before a reseller can advance to the next level. Within each TDCloud Academy tier, channel partners are provided training, social interaction, best practices and other resources necessary to graduate to the next level, officials said.

The distributor also is offering enrolled channel partners incentives, support and access to cloud-focused events to help them market their cloud solutions to customers.

Tech Data support personnel will guide channel partners through each tier, the company said.

“As partners look to transform their business to maximize their opportunity in the cloud, they continue to require a comprehensive cloud enablement engine, which Tech Data now provides,” said Eric Martorano, Microsoft senior director, SMB Channels.
