Cisco Revamps Voice, Security Certifications
Vendor renames and redesigns voice and security certifications, adds and updates courses, exams.
Cisco Systems Inc. said today that it has redesigned and rebranded its professional-level voice certification to include an expanded skill set and also enhanced its program for security certification.
Updates to our industry-leading security and voice certifications ensure we are providing the technical skills and depth of knowledge required for professionals to stand out in today¹s job market and enable a competitive advantage for their employers, said Jeanne Beliveau-Dunn, Learning@Cisco vice president and general manager.
The voice certification, previously called the Cisco Certified Voice Professional, has been renamed as the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Voice and redirected to map to Ciscos Collaboration 8.0, and skills associated with integrating and troubleshooting voicemail and messaging applications such as Cisco Unity Connection and Cisco Unified Presence.
Cisco has added two new courses to the voice certification path, namely, Integrating Cisco Unified Communications Applications (CAPPS) 8.0 and Introducing Cisco Voice and Unified Communications Administration (ICOMM) 8.0, along with the associated exams.
The vendor said it also has updated the four other voice courses and exams associated with the certification. The CCNP Voice and CCNA Voice exams and courses are available now, officials said.
The CCNP Security certification updates the vendors existing Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) program, and includes a new four-exam curriculum. The certification maps to job responsibilities of a network security engineer tasked with testing, deploying, configuring and troubleshooting the core technologies and devices that comprise network security.
Courses cover the Cisco IOS security features built into routers, switches, firewalls, virtual private networks (VPN), and intrusion detection and prevention systems.
Cisco said that CCNP Security courses will be available globally through Cisco Learning Partners on November 1, 2010, and the CCNP Security exams will be available November 26, 2010, at Pearson testing centers worldwide.
Cisco said that its recent survey of CCIEs pointed to security and risk management as high demand networking skills over the next three to five year period.
