Cisco Aims New Network Storage Line At Small Businesses
Smart Storage collection offers channel partners opportunity to add professional services, deploy business applications.
Cisco Systems Inc. added to its storage lineup with Smart Storage, a series of desktop network storage solutions equipped with integrated applications, aimed at small businesses of fewer than 100 employees and positioned for channel partners to make a suitable profit.
Officials said that Ciscos NSS 300 collection offers small business users an integrated, secure way to store and share critical data. The vendor said that the storage line was designed to provide affordable, easy-to-use technology to help small businesses improve productivity and growth.
Cisco also said that the NSS 300 line affords channel partners the opportunity to wrap professional services around business applications for the storage products to deliver added value to customers.
The NSS 300 series is comprised of two-bay, four-bay and six-bay desktop network storage units with up to 12 terabytes of hard drive space pre-installed. The equipment comes with on-disk data encryption, choice of RAID 0, 1, 5 and 6 configurations to safeguard data and a hot-swap design to replace failed drives.
You can set it up in minutes and the browser-based interface makes it easy to configure and manage, said Mike Allen, Cisco channel account manager.
Cisco Smart Storage is different from other network attached storage solutions because it features built-in and add-on applications that extend its capabilities beyond storage, Allen said.
The units will work either in Microsoft Windows, Linux or Apple Computer Inc.s Macintosh environments, Cisco said.
The vendor is backing the storage line with its Small Business Pro Service, a three-year package of technical support, software upgrades, next-business-day hardware replacement and online chat support. The service costs $149 for most NSS 300 series configurations.
Storage series presents opportunities for channel partners
Andrew Sage, Cisco vice president, Worldwide Small Business Sales, said that because the NSS line provides small business users with a single storage solutions complemented by integrated business applications, it is well-suited for channel partners.
To help Cisco small business partners hit the ground running with our network attached storage solution, we are making available the full suite of tools, training, support and profitability programs partners need to grow their business, Sage said.
The NSS 300 line ranges in price from $913 in the two-bay model to $5,625 for the six-bay unit, and is available worldwide. Ciscos roster of distributors, including Ingram Micro Inc., Tech Data Corp., D&H Distributing Co. and Comstor are carrying the systems.
