Presidio Inc., a privately-held IT solutions and managed services provider (MSP) based in Greenbelt, MD, said last week that it has bought BlueWater Communications Group, a six-year old New York-headquartered unified communications and data center specialist.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Robert Cagnazzi, BlueWater chief executive, and a 20-year industry veteran, will fill the vacant Presidio chief executive slot, the companies said. Prior to his stint as BlueWater head, Cagnazzi served as Dimension Data North America chief executive for five years.

Presidio most recently bought INX Inc., a $375 million IT solutions provider, for about $85 million. In the last seven years, Presidio also has purchased Ficomp Inc., Networked Information Systems LLC, Solarcom Holdings Inc. and Coleman Technologies Inc.

While the INX purchase gained Presidio a national sales presence and an expanded roster of sales offices in the western U.S., the BlueWater acquisition brings it an IT solutions provider with similar strengths.

“Combining BlueWater’s and Presidio’s capabilities will enable the company to expand its portfolio of advanced IT solutions and managed services and provide even greater value to its clients,” said Kevin Penn, Presidio chairman.

Both companies maintain practices in data center, cloud computing, collaboration, security and network infrastructure architecture and deliver on premise and cloud-based managed services. They also have a number of vendors in common, including Cisco Systems Inc., Citrix Systems Inc., EMC Corp., IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp., NetApp Inc. and VMware Inc.

Cagnazzi, in acknowledging the “similar business models and cultures” of the two companies, said that the combined organization “will enable us to accelerate our growth and build a company that is truly unique in the marketplace.”
