IBM Corp. confirmed that it has tapped Mark Hennessy as its new general manager, Global Business Partners and Midmarket, responsible for leading the company’s channels organization that numbers some 120,000 partners worldwide.
Hennessy, a 31-year IBM veteran who most recently served as general manager, Northeast Europe, replaces Rich Hume, who held the post since 2008 and reportedly will manage IBM’s European operations.
Hume is credited with devising IBM’s strategy to rely solely on channel partners for sales to midmarket customers, a plan the vendor has vigorously supported and promoted since its inception.
An IBM spokesperson said that Hennessy’s focus will be to “continue to collaborate with our business partners globally with the commitment on simplification, growth and profitability.”
Our business partners play a significant role in our Smarter Planet strategy,” the spokesperson said. “Under Mark’s leadership IBM will continue to build this momentum with the partner community.”
Hennessy’s IBM background includes a stint as vice president of global strategy and sales transformation, driving sales and distribution strategy and global field operations. In addition, he served as vice president and chief information officer tasked with global integration initiatives and technology operations worldwide.
