Westcon Adds Fujitsu to Data Center Portfolio for North America
Distributor taps former IBM exec to head its emerging technologies and data center practice.
Westcon Group Inc. said that it has expanded its distribution agreement for Fujitsu’s server and storage products to all of North America, bolstering the distributor’s data center portfolio that already includes gear from Avaya Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and Brocade Communications Systems Inc.
The distributor also said that it has named Dan Papes, a former IBM Corp. cloud services vice president, as senior vice president, Emerging Technologies and Data Center Practice. Papes is charged with building Westcon’s data center business practice, creating a sales and support infrastructure to broaden the partner portfolio and growing the Fujitsu relationship.
“Our data center practice, now supported by premier Fujitsu offerings, allows partners to quickly build new revenue streams based on a broad array of powerful technologies,” said Patty Gray, Westcon vice president, Global Technology Strategies.
Westcon officials said that the distributor now offers Fujitsu’s full line of server and storage technology, including recent additions Primergy server and Eternus storage lines, backed by service, integration, training and support programs.
Fujitsu said that the vendor will benefit from the expanded exposure Westcon provides.
“Westcon’s unmatched level of expertise will open new doors for our products across North America, ensuring partners can more effectively construct their data centers based on our award-winning products,” said Bill King, Fujitsu America executive vice president, Platform Products.
Westcon said that Fujitsu’s technologies will be included in the distributor’s LEAP (Learn, Experience, Architect and Plan) Centers of Excellence, a venue for hands-on training, technology demonstration, and briefings for next-generation, virtualized data centers.
