Tech Data Opens TDMobility Mobile Services to Wider U.S. VAR Audience
Distributor targets channel partners selling mobile solutions to SMBs and enterprises.
Tech Data Corp. said that it has opened its TDMobility, a platform-as-a-service the distributor initiated last April for channel partners to offer end-to-end mobility services to customers, to a wider audience of U.S.-based mobility resellers.
The TDMobility service, which runs under the name ActivateIT in concert with Brightstar Corp., a provider of wireless services and solutions, supplies channel partners selling mobility services with a single source for core services such as activation and renewals, data services, software, hardware, accessories, technical support, billing management, asset management, training and installation.
A few hundred Tech Data resellers currently participate in TDMobility, with Tech Data serving as the go-between channel partners and carriers. The distributor said it has agreements in place with T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint, enabling resellers to activate lines on behalf of each mobile carrier.
Joe Quaglia, the newly-titled TDMobility president, said that the TDMobility services are well-suited for mobility-focused channel partners aiming to capitalize on the market growth of smartphones, tablets and cloud computing.

Quaglia said that the service offers an “unprecedented opportunity for our reseller customers to package a complete mobile solution and achieve success in the growing mobility space."
TDMobility spans two separate services—CellManage and TDActivate. CellManage gives channel partners the ability to manage multiple cellular lines through a single portal to handle bills, deployments, asset tracking and procurement of cellular devices.
TDActivate underwrites the cost of mobility hardware for channel partners and pays an upfront commission for services. It provides a supply chain for mobile products and activations that is consistent with other products sourced from Tech Data, officials said.
