Tech Data Corp. said Joseph Quaglia, head of its U.S. marketing unit since 2007, will take on new responsibilities as president of its mobility division, a 10-month old unit the distributor runs under the name ActivateIT in concert with Brightstar Corp., a provider of wireless services and solutions.

In his new role, Quaglia, who reports to Murray Wright, Tech Data Americas president, will lead TDMobility’s strategic direction, operations and go-to-market execution. Tech Data launched ActivateIT in April, 2011 to provide channel partners with a single source for activation, renewals and other key services offered to mobility business customers.

"We have a strong team in place to grow our mobility business and I look forward to working with them to provide our resellers with an opportunity to capitalize on market opportunities in this growing category," said Quaglia.

Wright said that Tech Data’s mobility business was a strategic growth area for the company and praised Quaglia’s leadership qualities.

“This appointment reflects our confidence in Joe's leadership capabilities and affirms our commitment to mobility in the channel," he said.

Quaglia, who has been with Tech Data since 2006, also is responsible for the distributor’s product marketing, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) and TDAgency divisions. He is credited with helping to launch Tech Data’s StreamOne platform, TDCloud and TDMobility, growing its vertical and AIS division, and designing vertical and end-user demand generation programs through its TDAgency unit.

Prior to joining Tech Data, Qauglia worked at CA Technologies Inc. for 10 years and also held senior management positions at StorageNetworks Inc. and Atabok, a network software provider.
