Avnet Technology Solutions, the distribution arm of Avnet Inc., said that it has added a training curriculum focused on the convergence of data center-related technologies to its SolutionsPath enablement portfolio.

The distributor said that it will offer channel partners in North America access to its new Data Center University and a set of customized workshops. Avnet said that it will draw on its expertise in cloud computing, mobility, networking, security, storage and virtualization to train partners to develop data center solutions.

Tim FitzGerald, ATS Americas vice president, data center technology solutions practices, said that one goal of the data center training is to help channel partners gain a broader set of technology specializations.

“We expanded Avnet’s SolutionsPath strategy to focus on the natural intersection points between cloud computing, mobility, networking, security, storage and virtualization,” he said.

“As a result, our new data center-focused university and workshops will help partners obtain technology specializations to further broaden their solutions expertise and enable them to provide a more holistic approach to the data center for their customers,” said FitzGerald.

Avnet’s Data Center University will offer three-day educational programs for partners to learn how to focus on connected data center solutions and services that address the specific business needs of their customers, officials said.

The university will include technology specialization tracks for cloud computing, mobility, network, security, storage, and virtualization. The first Data Center University will be held October 18-20, 2011, in Phoenix, AZ.

In addition, the distributor will offer one-on-one training sessions to help individual partners address gaps in skills in areas such as cloud computing, mobility, network, security, storage, and virtualization.

Avnet said that its offerings will educate partners on how virtualization can serve as a natural gateway to cloud computing.

“With the growth of our practice, we’re seeing a need from many of our customers to also help them with virtualization, hosting and cloud computing,” said Niral Jhaveri, Prolifics practice director, user experience.

“Avnet’s new Data Center University and tailored workshops will broaden our approach, help us provide end-to-end solutions, and position us to capture additional opportunities,” said Jhaveri.
