Avnet Offers Cloud Computing Training for VARs and ISVs

Two-day sales and technical training aims to up partners’ skill to build cloud practice.

Avnet Technology Solutions, the distribution arm of Avnet Inc. said that it is offering new cloud computing sales and technical training aimed at helping channel partners in North America to build skills necessary to open and sustain a cloud-oriented practice.

The distributor said that the two-day training will feature tracks for sales professionals and technical staff. Initial sessions will focus on understanding the cloud, key drivers and stakeholders, and building blocks of cloud solutions. Participants then will focus on either a sales track of a solutions engineering track, officials said.

“It’s clear VARs and ISVs want to understand how to tackle the complex and rapidly evolving cloud computing market,” said Tim FitzGerald, Avnet vice president, Data Center Technology Solutions Practices.

“Our partners are finding that pursuing cloud computing opportunities is similar to getting started in a new data center technology specialization,” he said.

“This cloud-focused sales and technical training will help partners quickly engage in relevant and productive conversations around cloud computing, as well as design cloud solutions aligned to their customers’ business goals,” FitzGerald said.

Avnet said that it has been prepping partners to take advantage of cloud computing opportunities through its CloudReady SolutionsPath program, offering education, training, financing, professional services, technical resources and integrated cloud solutions. Officials said that the new training program is its second such offering for partners, the first of which, a three-part webinar on cloud solutions, is still available.

FitzGerald said that Avnet “applied our experience in training more than 1,000 partners in vertical markets and data center technologies using our SolutionsPath methodology to create this new training offering.”

One Avnet channel partner said that the cloud training will help it succeed in the market.

“Cloud computing is a game-changer for the IT industry, and we need to quickly become experts in this delivery model to ensure our long-term success,” said Deney Dentel, Nordisk Systems, Inc. president.
