Avnet Teams with National Retail Federation for Industry Certification

Badge will enable channel partners to demonstrate knowledge of retail operations and markets.

Avnet Technology Solutions, the distribution arm of Avnet Inc., said that it has teamed with the National Retail Federation (NRF) Foundation, a trade association, to help channel partners attain a certificate that denotes training and knowledge in specific retail industries.

The distributor said that it will help U.S.-based channel partners prepare for the NRF’s Professional Retail Business Credential, a measure of knowledge and expertise in several important retail disciplines. Candidates earn the certificate by passing an online, 75-question proctored exam.

Avnet’s arrangement with the NRF is part of the distributor’s plans to expand its vertical market education options for channel partners, officials said.

“Avnet’s vertical market strategy provides our reseller partners with an end-to-end, multi-phased educational process to gain the skills needed to successfully pursue market opportunities in highly-specialized industries,” said Michael Houghton, Avnet vice president, Vertical Market Solutions.

“We will now be preparing our partners to attain retail industry certification, which will be the first of several new vertical market education offerings from Avnet,” he said. “With the NRF Foundation Professional Retail Business Credential, our partners will be able to demonstrate that they have an in-depth understanding of retail operations and the market knowledge needed to serve as trusted advisors.”

An NRF official said that its Professional Retail Business Credential measures knowledge of seven key areas of the retail industry, including retail operations, merchandising, sales and marketing, retail management and planning, retail context and the customer, retail organization and human resources, and warehousing and logistics.

“The NRF Foundation’s Retail Business Credential is the industry standard for assessing a business partner’s expertise in the retail market,” said Kathy Mance, NRF Foundation executive director.

“We are pleased and impressed that Avnet is making the investments to bring this certification to the value-added reseller community,” she said.

Avnet said that channel partners will be able to tap into resources from its RetailPath practice to prepare for the credential.
