New IBM SaaS Pricing and Channel Financing Options Aimed at Builders of Cloud Applications and Infrastructures

Vendor offers new monthly rental pricing for ISVs delivering SaaS applications with IBM middleware, and new financing programs for channel partners building cloud computing technical environments.

IBM Corp. is offering cloud-focused channel partners new financing and pricing programs to encourage the building of cloud applications and infrastructures based on its technology.

The vendor said that it will provide Cloud Application Providers, one of five new partner classifications it opened last February under a Cloud Computing Specialty program, the opportunity to acquire IBM software for use in their Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings on a monthly rental subscription basis.

IBM said that it believes the new pricing opportunity will help lure established and start up Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) from competing platforms to its middleware because it offers an easy path to include the vendor’s technology with their own offerings.

"More and more clients are asking IBM and our partners to provide them with cloud capabilities around the globe, ranging from the flexible delivery of software applications to building private and public clouds," said Jim Corgel, IBM general manager, Independent Software Vendor (ISV) and Developer Relations.

"IBM's business partner community is essential to our ability to support these demands, and we are committed to providing the industry's best resources and opportunities to help our partners grow their business through the cloud," he said.

IBM said that its new monthly rental software pricing model will enable SaaS providers to help their customers get cloud applications up and running with smaller initial financial outlays and staffing requirements.

The vendor said that the pricing allows ISVs to build and delivery SaaS application with IBM software and scale the licenses needed monthly based on an annual commitment. For example, ISVs involved in seasonal sales will be able to use more software licenses during heavy periods and fewer during slower months.

"Through the monthly rental pricing from IBM, we can better manage our monthly finances and have the opportunity to grow or shrink the licenses needed on a monthly basis based on our own deployment patterns," said Claudio Bessa, TOTVS S.A. international and new business director. TOTVS is a Brazil-based IBM Premier Business Partner.

New financing for cloud partners

IBM also said that a new financing package aimed at cloud partners building cloud computing technical environments will include zero percent financing and deferred payments on its technology and services for deals up to $500,000 in the U.S.

The offering includes lease options for certain hardware that allows for mid-lease upgrades for new technology.

On big infrastructure deployments for deals of more than $500,000 in the U.S., IBM Global Financing offers initial payment deferrals of up to six months.
