Tech Data Offers New Service to Simplify Software Licensing for Channel Partners

Distributor unveils StreamOne Software License Selector tool to remove complexity and add speed to the licensing process.

Tech Data Corp. said that it is offering a new software licensing application called the StreamOne Software License Selector that simplifies and speeds up the quoting, selection and ordering process for channel partners.

The distributor said that the Software License Selector is the first of a number of e-business services it is building on the StreamOne platform. The new tool, available at the Tech Data website, helps channel partners to navigate the software buying process in four steps to arrive at the correct software part number, equipped with accurate pricing and the right license type.

Tech Data said that the Software License Selector improves the accuracy and efficiency of its software license distribution channel, reducing the time from quote to license from days to minutes.

The distributor said that by using the tool channel partners will be able to easily attach software sales to hardware, lower processing costs and obtain accurate pricing. Software vendors will gain more channel partners because the application makes it easier to sell licenses, Tech Data said.

To date, nearly 40 software vendors, comprising 99 percent of software licenses purchased through Tech Data, have signed on to support the Software License Selector, including Absolute Software Corp., Acronis Inc., Adobe Systems Inc., Autodesk Inc., BitDefender LLC, CA Technologies Inc., Check Point Software Inc., Corel Corp., Datawatch Corp., Diskeeper Corp., Double-Take Software Inc., Ericom Software Inc., Filemaker Inc., Intuit Inc., Ipswitch Inc., Kaspersky Lab, McAfee Inc., Micro Focus International plc, Microsoft Corp., Novell Inc., Nuance Communications Inc., Oracle Corp., Panda Security, Parallels Inc., Red Hat Inc., Sage, SAP AG, SCO, SolarWinds Inc., St. Bernard Software Inc., Sybase Inc., Symantec Corp., Trend Micro Inc., USA.NET Inc., Vasco Data Security International Inc., Vizioncore (Quest Software Inc.) and VMware Inc.

“Many resellers avoid pursuing lucrative, margin-rich software sales because of the complexity of software licensing,” said Stacy Nethercoat, Tech Data vice president, software product marketing.

“Now, for the first time ever, there is no need for a reseller to be an expert or invest in expensive resources or training to sell software,” Nethercoat said. “All they need is the StreamOne Software License Selector,” she said.

Suzanne Mayes, Software Express Inc. senior territory manager, said that Tech Data’s new licensing application will improve the product selection and ordering process.

“Tech Data’s StreamOne Software License Selector is a one-stop shop for our software licensing needs,” said Mayes. “It enables us to efficiently find products and qualify orders right the first time,” she said.

Joe Quaglia, Tech Data senior vice president, U.S. Marketing, said that the distributor expects the licensing tool will boost its number of software resellers and improve sales, particularly among small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

“The StreamOne Software License Selector is quickly solidifying Tech Data’s position as the premier software license distributor for the world’s leading software companies,” he said.

“Increasing the number of reseller partners able to sell software for our software vendor partners will generate incremental software sales for everyone, including Tech Data,” Quaglia said.

“Additionally, we believe the StreamOne Software License Selector will help Tech Data strengthen software sales, especially among small and medium businesses,” he said.
