Avnet Gains Cisco UCS B-Series Authorized Configurator Certification
First up among Ciscos distributors approved to configure, assemble and test pre-built UCS B-Series blade servers.
Avnet Technology Solutions, the distribution arm of Avnet Inc., said this week that Cisco Systems Inc. has granted it authorization to configure, assemble and test pre-built, base level Unified Computing System (UCS) B-Series blade servers.
Avnet said it was the first among Ciscos distributors to gain the UCS Authorized Configurator status for the U.S. and Canada. The distributor said the certification, which the company credited to its engineering team, SolutionsPath Demo Center and operational processes, will help its channel partners speed up delivery of data center solutions.
Last July, Avnet landed a similar certification for Ciscos UCS C-Series servers, which the vendor also has granted to its other distributors, Westcon Group Inc., Tech Data Corp. and Ingram Micro Inc.
The authorized configurator certification enables distributors to integrate components such as processors, memory, hard-drives and adaptors into the systems and is favored because it saves channel partners from investing in their own integration facilities.
Channel partners need to provide custom data center solutions to meet the unique needs of their customers, but configuring and integrating these solutions can be time and resource intensive, said Darren Adams, Avnet general manager and vice president, Cisco Solutions Group.
Our services, coupled with onsite inventory of Cisco products, will help partners deliver data center solutions tailored to their customers business challenges quickly and cost-effectively, without the need for our channel partners to invest in developing their own complex integration capabilities, he said.
Julie Hens, Cisco vice president, North American distribution, said that Avnet has made suitable investments in integration and technical capabilities to help channel partners accelerate the delivery of data center solutions to customers.
Avnet has proven not only that they are experts in helping channel partners target the data center market, but also that they have invested in developing the integration and technical capabilities needed to configure and integrate solutions based on Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers, Hens said.
Avnet said that its UCS B-Series integration services for channel partners will include adding processors, memory, hard drives, cards, and custom-assembled blades. It also will assemble and test the blade servers, chassis, fabric extenders, fabric interconnects and UCS Manager, the company said.
The distributor also said that its integration services will extend to incorporating products from vendors such as EMC Corp., NetApp Inc., Hitachi Data Systems and VMware Inc. to create comprehensive data center solutions for channel partners.
The company said that its solution architects intend to work with channel partners on hardware integration, software configuration, packaging and logistics, and maintenance services.
Avnet wants its channel partners to focus on their core business while relying on the distributors supply chain services to complete the sales process.
