Sirius Computer Solutions to Buy MSI Systems Integrators

Acquisition will bump Sirius to $1 billion IT solutions provider.

Sirius Computer Solutions Inc., a privately-held, San Antonio, TX-based IT solutions provider, said it will acquire MSI Systems Integrators Inc., a 16 year-old, privately-held, $350 million IT integrator based on Omaha, NE, operating in 17 states in the central and western U.S.

Terms of the agreement, the details of which were not disclosed, call for Sirius to purchase MSI’s stock. The boards of directors of both companies have approved the transaction, which is expected to close within the next 30 days.

The combined revenue of the two companies will exceed $1 billion, officials said. Sirius posted nearly $700 million in sales in 2009, while MSI recorded about $350 million.

Both Sirius and MSI are prominent channel players in providing IT solutions and services to all manner of clients. Each is an IBM Corp. Premier Business Partner and both maintain relationships with Cisco Systems Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., Microsoft Corp., NetApp Inc. and VMware Inc.

Sirius employs about 700 people and MSI has approximately 400 employees, nearly half of which occupy technical positions in the company. Neither party said whether or not the merger will impact overall employee head count.

“Our companies have similar core values, client focus and industry leading partners,” said Joe Mertens, Sirius president.

Mertens said that MSI’s services lineup, technology centers and technical personnel maps to Sirius’ strategy.

“The resulting company will have outstanding financial strength, national depth, unparalleled technical skills, and world class solutions from leading technology manufacturers,” he said.

“The real winner here is the client,” said Jim Simpson, MSI president and chief executive.

MSI supplies services such as includes remote monitoring and management, IT consulting, implementation and financial, and virtualization, data center optimization, security, business continuity and unified communications solutions.

Earlier this year, Sirius said that it had become the first channel partner to attain IBM’s System x specialty, a new designation carrying tools, training, marketing and financial incentives for qualifying resellers.
