Tech Data Corp. said it has broadened its consumer electronics product lineup to include 3D LCD televisions and Lenovos IdeaPad laptops, looking to capitalize on two segments within the consumer electronics market pegged by analysts for substantial growth. The distributor said that in the past year it has added more than 1,300 consumer electronics retailers to its Consumer Technology Group, ranging from traditional retailers to Internet-based e-tailers, expanded its line card of offerings and landed a host of new agreements with electronics manufacturers. The diversification of the products we sell and the customers we serve is a key component of Tech Datas ongoing growth strategy, said Joe Quaglia, Tech Data senior vice president, U.S. marketing. To make its point, Tech Data offered data from DisplaySearch, a Santa Clara, CA-based researcher specializing in the display industry, forecasting global shipments of 3.4 million 3D TVs in 2010 growing to 42.9 million by 2014. The addition of 3D TVs from some of the industrys leading manufacturers enhances our ability to capitalize on the emerging demand for exciting 3D products hitting the market, Quaglia said. In addition, the distributor cited data from researcher International Data Corp. tacking a 20 percent expected growth rate on to the PC market in 2010, driven by portable sales in the consumer and commercial markets. Lenovos IdeaPad laptops better position Tech Data and our retailer customers to take advantage of the continued sales growth among consumer-class PCs, Quaglia said. Tech Datas consumer mobile computing roster includes laptops, notebooks, netbooks and other devices. The distributors overall consumer technology portfolio includes components, home video and audio, printers and scanners, software, home networking, consumer electronics and accessories.
