Distributor Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) Division is partnering with Vizioncore, a server virtualization management vendor to offer VARs software solutions that enable businesses to better manage and administer virtual and physical servers.

The move is yet another indication that data center virtualization is becoming a stronger and more viable revenue opportunity for channel partners.

"Virtualization solutions are radically altering the design of today's data centers, requiring not only the development of new IT strategies, but also the implementation of specialized tools to manage this new computing environment," said Amy Belcher, Tech Data's director, product marketing, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Division, in a prepared statement. She added that Vizioncore is developing a broad slate of software VARs can deploy to increase incremental revenue opportunity for themselves and ensure that business customers capitalize on their server virtualization investments.

Chris Akerberg, president and COO of Vizioncore, noted the alliance with Tech Data underscores the growing momentum for virtualization solutions in the channel and will allow the vendor to work with VARs to reach new business customers in the commercial, government and education markets.

Under the agreement, Tech Data (NASDAQ:TECD) will distribute a broad range of Vizioncore software products. These include vRanger Pro, a backup and restoration solution for virtualized environments that enables administrators to schedule image-level backups for virtual and physical servers while systems are still running. Images are stored locally on the SAN or distributed via the network to remote locations to support disaster recovery protocols.

A second product, vReplicator Software, is a replication solution for VMware infrastructure that enables an entire virtual machine to be replicated, including the operating system, patches, configurations, applications and data, to another physical device.

The other products involved in the arrangement are vFoglight, an advanced monitoring and management solution that helps users optimize their virtual infrastructure by tracking workloads and allocating computing resources on demand; and vConverter, an enterprise-class virtualization conversion solution that reduces the time and complexity of converting physical servers to virtual servers leveraging multiple virtualization platforms.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Vizioncore is a subsidiary of Quest Software.

Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Division helps channel partner capitalize on the demand for mid-market and enterprise-level server, storage and software solutions.
