Ingram Micro Rolls Out Disaster Recovery Service for VARs
At its VentureTech conference in San Diego, the distributor expands its professional services offerings to include backup and recovery services that channel partners will be able to market to outside businesses.
Distributor Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) is expanding its professional services offerings to include the area of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) Services. The action, announced at the company's VentureTech Network VAR conference in San Diego, will help channel partners quickly expand or build a disaster recovery practice without a large investment in infrastructure or sales personnel.
"We see this as a great, flexible service offering," said Justin Crotty, vice president services, Ingram Micro North America. "It will allow our resellers to either do effective planning for BC/DR and recommend solutions to customers or go in after a disaster and provide recovery and restoration." Crotty noted that recent natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina more aware of the need for disaster planning and recovery.
"This is seen no longer seen as something that is nice to have," Crotty added. "Businesses need the ability to backup and restore before a problem exists. We are making these services more accessible to more resellers."
Available to channel partners in North America under the Ingram Micro Services Division, these new offerings provide a repeatable, consistent approach to service that can grow and change with solution providers and end-users business needs.
Crotty said the new services function as a blueprint for a more holistic and comprehensive approach to assessing, anticipating, planning for, and preparing for potential minor to major business interruptions. Channel partners will be able to deliver the services to business customers under their own label. They can also utilize the services for backup and recovery in their own businesses.
"This is still a fairly specialized capability," Crotty said. "Our base of resellers probably will need a little help in this area. But we view this as a way to help expand their functionality."
Most of the business customers for the BC/DR services are expected to be in the small business and mid-market range.
Although the service offerings are being rolled out to Ingram's elite VentureTech Network VARs, Crotty said they also will be made available "to our larger service providers, not just those in VTN."
Ingram Micro is presenting two webinars next month to introduce the services to channel partners.
