IBM - Welch AllynWelch Allyn is a company that develops and manufactures a wide range of equipment for physicians and medical personnel. The North American Free Trade Agreement offered an opportunity to manufacture products at lower costs at a new plant in Mexico. What the company needed to do was extend their IT infrastructure to support this new strategy. Dell-NetlogSocial networking sites are extremely popular, and Netlog is the leading networking Web site in six European countries, including Belgium and Italy. The challenge the company was facing was that their existing infrastructure was outdated. Netlog needed to find an affordable, reliable, and highly available system to support their expansion, process billions of page views, and store huge volumes of data. IBM-Rice UniversityRice University, located in Houston, Texas, is a private research academy. The institution, founded in 1912, is known for its prestigious undergraduate programs and its strength in the applied sciences. In order to offer students a state-of-the-art research environment, the university decided to implement the Sakai system. This open source environment, currently in use by well over 100 universities, is an extremely effective collaborative tool. The university felt that the Sakai environment would encourage students and faculty to communicate and work together. After obtaining a Shared University Research (SUR) grant from IBM, Rice implemented the Sakai environment. Business Objects-Allied Irish BanksAllied Irish Banks (AIB) is Irelands leading bank and financial services organization. The major challenge this large financial organization was facing was that their current activity-based management (ABM) software did not provide the level of insight desired about the end-to-end process costs of common business activities, such as processing and managing loans. TriActive-Wellborn CabinetWellborn Cabinet, located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, specializes in manufacturing high quality cabinetry for kitchens and bathrooms. Wellborns IT staff supports numerous traveling sales people and 400 end users spread across five locations. Because the companys system is so widespread and asset management tracking and software distribution had to be done manually, keeping the companys LAN and mobile assets up to date was difficult.
