The challenge AIS was facing was that they were receiving a substantial number of complaints from customers about slow e-mail delivery and spam messages. The company needed to find a solution that would speed up e-mail delivery and reduce the volume of spam that reached customer and employee inboxes. They also wanted a system that would allow them to maintain control over which messages were blocked and how e-mail was processed.

American Internet Services’s engineering team worked together to come up with the best solution for the company’s needs. They decided to implement F5 Network’s Message Security Module (MSM) on the BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) already in use by the company.

The most obvious benefit of deploying the F5 Message Security Module (MSM) has been the dramatic reduction in the number of spam messages received by AIS customers. The number of unwanted e-mails reaching servers has been reduced by two-thirds, which is equivalent to about 20 million e-mails every month. E-mail messages are now delivered faster, and there is less drain on servers and resources due to spam. Because of the program’s flexibility, AIS has also been able to maintain control over e-mail delivery.
