The Plaxo network is rapidly expanding, adding about 20,000 new users every day.

Not surprisingly, data storage is a major concern for this ever-growing company. When their initial 3-TB of data grew to over 75-TB in just a few months, the company began searching for a high performance system that could scale rapidly to meet their increasing data storage needs.

Because of its competitive price and excellent performance, Plaxo chose the Pillar Axiom storage system from Pillar Data Systems. Currently, the company uses four interconnected Pillar Axiom storage systems to back up and archive primary and secondary data.

The Pillar Axiom storage system has benefited Plaxo in several ways. It exceeds the company's I/O performance requirements, and allows primary and secondary data to be written to the same disks. Aged data can be moved quickly to free up priority disk space for newer data. The new system is more flexible than Plaxo's former direct-attached storage system, and the company predicts that provisioning and management expenditures will fall dramatically. Finally, Plaxo can feel confident that the Pillar Axiom storage systems will be able to accommodate future growth without excessive costs. The company can quickly add data storage capacity without worrying about additional software licensing fees.
