Currently, they generate billions in revenue each year, selling a variety of educational products to universities, libraries, and schools. This retail powerhouse owns 800 stores, employs 10,000 individuals, and relies on thousands of PCs and servers to support its operations. The challenge the company was facing was that their existing security software was consuming an excessive amount of the wide area networks total bandwidth. This led to a difficulty in processing credit card transactions many were not going through. Since the Follett Corporation has plenty of competitors, an inability to process payments was a serious problem. Many customers would simply visit another store rather than wait in line for a lengthy period of time. After evaluating software solutions from two vendors, the Follett Corporation decided to deploy a variety of Trend Micro products. The multi-layered Trend Micro Enterprise Security solution consisted of the Trend Micro OfficeScan Client/Server Edition, Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange, Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security Suite, and Trend Micro Premium Support. One of the benefits of the Trend Micro solution was that it was incredibly easy to deploy. Within 45 days, the Trend Micro solutions had been implemented in all 800 stores. There were few issues and no calls to the help desk. The Trend Micro applications also successfully addressed the corporations main challenge: finding a way to conserve its WAN bandwidth. The system completes updates intelligently and incrementally, so the impact on the Follett Corporations network is minimized.
