Solution: Lakeridge Health is a community hospital network consisting of 5 main hospital sites and 20 off-site locations. The organization provides a variety of health care services to more than half a million urban and rural Ontario residents, making it the largest hospital network in the province.

 

Lakeridge Health relies on critical IT infrastructure spanning its 25 hospitals, clinics, and administrative sites to support its operations. Unfortunately, the organization began experiencing an escalation in Web threats, including Web-based phishing, data-stealing malware, and spam e-mails containing links to these threats. As these Web threats increased, so did the number of complaints about spyware and other infections. As a result, Lakeridge Health began searching for effective security solutions.

 

After evaluating four security vendors, the Ontario health care provider decided to deploy a variety of Trend Micro products. Multiple layers of Trend Micro Enterprise Security powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network were deployed. These layered Trend Micro products were able to stop threats at multiple entry points. Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security, Trend Micro InterScan Web Security, and Trend Micro OfficeScan Client/Sever Edition were selected to block Web-based threats at the earliest possible point in Lakeridge Health’s network.

 

Lakeridge Health’s move to Trend Micro technologies has been beneficial in several ways. The multi-layered technologies are able to block e-mail and Web threats, including spam, viruses, Trojans, spyware, bot code, and data-stealing malware at the network edge, enhancing the system’s security. In addition, the in-the-cloud reputation analysis can identify and block all elements of an attack, including embedded links, malicious Web sites, and dangerous files. Patient information can now be better safeguarded, and the system complies with mandated health care practices. Lastly, because the Trend Micro solutions are tightly integrated and centrally managed, deployment and the day-to-day administration of the system are simplified, which both saves time and reduces costs.
