Solution: Wellborn Cabinet, located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, specializes in manufacturing high quality cabinetry for kitchens and bathrooms. This family-owned business began operations in 1961. Today, Wellborn encompasses over two million square feet of production space and operates its own timber processing mill.

Wellborn's IT staff supports numerous traveling sales people and 400 end users spread across five locations. Because the company’s system is so widespread and asset management tracking and software distribution had to be done manually, keeping the company’s LAN and mobile assets up to date was difficult. Updates and patches were almost never completed, and staff had to work nights and weekends to distribute large support packs. The lack of an asset management solution also meant there was no way to generate reports to confirm systems had received required patches and updates.

To address their multiple IT challenges, Wellborn purchased TriActive's Patch Management Suite after evaluating a number of potential solutions. The program is a robust application with a number of capabilities, including hardware and software asset inventory and reporting, software distribution and licensing, patch management, and remote control.

The benefits of the TriActive solution were obvious almost immediately. Within hours of installing the suite, Wellborn’s IT staff was able to push TriActive’s MicroAgent out to all assets. Once this agent was installed, information about inventory, missing patches, and computer hardware could be readily retrieved. This enhanced information access has made completing software licensing tasks and upgrades easier, and also helps monitor whether end users are installing software that could potentially harm Wellborn's network. Thanks to the application's software distribution engine and automated patch management features, patch jobs can now be scheduled to occur after hours. Overall, the improved automation, enhanced patching efficiencies, and reduced vulnerabilities that have been observed as a result of installing TriActive's Patch Management Suite have saved Wellborn’s IT staff many man hours and allowed them to focus on other important tasks.
