Technology Used: ZXTM, Dell PowerEdge 1850 dual Xeon machines, Windows Server 2003, HP BL10 blade centre
Solution: Play.com is an online shopping site that sells a variety of products, including games, books, electronics, and software. The Internet retailer is highly successful, and was recently rated as the second best shopping site in the United Kingdom.
As Play.com continued to grow, the company began looking for a way to replace the existing Microsoft Network Load Balancers with a product that would permit the Internet retailer to scale up its e-commerce capacity at any time by as many servers as needed. Because the companys reputation depends on the availability of their site and the quality of end users' experiences, Play.com also needed the solution to be implemented without disruptions in service.
Play.com chose to work with Zeus Technology because of the company's proven track record and previous work with high-profile Web sites. Play.com also appreciated the flexibility, value, performance, and scalability of Zeus Technology's solution. The online retailer deployed ZXTM on Dell PowerEdge 1850 dual Xeon machines. The Web site is run with Windows 2003 Server from an HP BL10 blade center.
Since deploying ZXTM, the site's performance and response times have been greatly enhanced. Web content can be delivered faster and more reliably than in the past, enhancing the experience of site visitors. Since ZXTM takes less time to administer than the Microsoft solution that was used originally, operating costs have been reduced. David Turner, Play.coms systems architect, has been impressed with the scalability of the system and by the fact that there has been no site downtime as a result of deploying ZXTM.
