Vendor: ADTRAN (NYSE: ADTN) Customer: WESCO Technology Used: NetVanta 1335 Multiservice Access Router, NetVanta 150 Wireless Access Point, n-Command Solution: WESCO is a company that has experienced massive success in the retail sector. In 1952, WESCO consisted of just a single store, but today the company owns 53 convenience stores, several sandwich shops, a bakery, a distribution center, and an energy department for home heating fuel. WESCO wanted to transfer from a 56k Frame Relay network to MPLS, but soon realized they would need a new networking infrastructure to do so. The company expected their upgraded network to have increased bandwidth and provide future support for VoIP. The network would also need to be secure and have an integrated wireless connection. WESCO found that ADTRANs technologies would allow them to meet their network criteria and upgrade from 56k to MPLS. To complete the upgrade, WESCO deployed a NetVanta 1335 Multiservice Access Router, a NetVanta 150 Wireless Access Point, and n-Command. One of the most important advantages of the network upgrade is the added security of the new system. WESCO will also be able to make the transition to VoIP in the future without costly upgrades to the network. Thanks to the network upgrade, the company was also able to add hand-held wireless devices for merchandise reordering to boost productivity. WESCOs network and security administrator stated that ADTRANs products were easier to configure, program, and change than many others, and also praised the performance of ADTRANs products and the excellent support received from the computer companys sales representatives.
