Instead of simply selling tubs of pre-made ice cream, the company developed an automated machine that produces individual servings of fresh, made-to-order ice cream in about 45 seconds. Customers are able to choose from a variety of delicious flavors. MooBellas original and potentially market-changing idea quickly received funding. However, the company still needed to find a way to transform their concept into a commercially-viable machine that could easily be manufactured. To meet this challenge, MooBella began searching for a 3D design platform that was easy to use and highly collaborative. The ice cream maker selected SolidWorks Premium 3D CAD software for its usability, impressive capabilities, and visualization and communications tools that are conducive to collaboration. SolidWorks Workgroup PDM and SolidWorks Simulation design analysis software were also deployed. By using SolidWorks technologies, MooBella was able to shorten its product design cycle by at least 33 percent. Even more impressive, the company lowered its product development costs by an estimated 50 percent. These time and cost savings can be attributed in large part to the use of a common data format, as well as the 3D visualization capabilities and the effective communications tools of the SolidWorks systems, which support seamless collaboration. The SolidWorks Simulation and design validation tools will also play an instrumental role in helping MooBella improve upon their existing technology to deliver freshly-made ice cream to consumers throughout the world.
