Solution: The VSE Corporation is a publicly-traded company that provides engineering and consulting services, systems integrations, infrastructure support, and information technology solutions to agencies of the United States Government and other government contractors throughout the world. The main challenge the rapidly expanding VSE Corporation was facing was that its Symantec Veritas Backup Exec platform was no longer sufficient to meet its needs. Backups couldn’t be completed within the company’s daily and weekend windows, and full backups took four days to finish. VSE also wanted to extend its e-mail archiving capabilities to meet growing demands for e-mail retention and retrieval.

VSE decided to deploy CommVault Simpana with Backup, Recovery & Archive for Exchange with Content Indexing and Single Instance Store. The company chose to work with CommVault because its technologies were both robust and user friendly. The platform also met all of VSE’s data protection and compliance needs.

One of the most significant benefits of deploying the CommVault system has been the reduction in the time it takes to perform backups and restores. Full backups that took four days can now be completed in four hours, while restores can now be done in minutes instead of hours. The E-mail Archive feature eases compliance requirements and allows mailbox sizes to be reduced by up to 40 percent, while the Content Indexing feature simplifies universal searches. Single Instance Store allows for the storage of more data on less disk space. In addition, Exchange archive data can now be produced in-house, which corresponds to reduced search and discovery costs for the successful Virginia-based corporation.
