Rated as one of the top five most technically advanced clubs, the Cleveland Indians began capturing video and archiving information in 2004. Today, between online game videos and operational data, the Cleveland Indians have more than 18-TB of important information. As the Cleveland Indians began to rely more heavily on online video their storage needs increased dramatically. Their platform at the time was unable to keep up with the baseball teams growing backup and recovery demands, and increasing failure rates made meeting backup windows problematic. The existing system also required a significant amount of administration. As a result, the Cleveland Indians began searching for an enterprise solution that could meet the teams rapidly increasing data protection and data management needs. In November of 2005, the Cleveland Indians installed CommVault Simpana Backup software. After considering several competitors, the team chose the CommVault program because of its affordability, scalability, graphical user interface, and centralized management and catalog capabilities. In 2008, the Indians migrated to the latest version of the CommVault Simpana software during a server refresh. Installing CommVault Simpana helped reduce backup windows by more than 50 percent. The most recent upgrade delivered enhanced performance and functionality, and administrative overhead has been substantially reduced. Overall, the comprehensive data management capabilities of the CommVault Simpana program have helped the Cleveland Indians both manage growth and control backup and recovery-related costs.
