Vendor: Intel (NYSE: INTC) Customer: MDG Computers Canada Inc. www.mdg.ca Technology Used: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.1 Intel Desktop Board DQ35JO with Intel Core 2 Processor Solution: MDG Computers Canada Inc., which was founded in 1991, originally consisted of just a single location. Since that time, they have grown to become the largest Canadian-owned PC manufacturer and retailer of computers, servers, and televisions. Headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, the company currently has 18 franchised locations across Canada. The challenge the company was facing was that they needed to compete in an upcoming enterprise contract with the Canadian Federal Government. The contract required systems to comply with a detailed set of software and hardware certifications, and the company needed to quickly certify their desktop and server systems in order to have any hope of winning the contract. To meet the prerequisites to qualify for the highly sought after NMSO contract, MDG Computers Canada Inc. used a system configuration guide provided by the Intel Enabled Server Acceleration Alliance (ESAA). Using this, the computer company quickly selected, qualified, and pre-tested assembled systems to ensure they complied with software manufacturer certifications and Energy Star 4.0 and EPEAT Gold environmental criteria. By using Intel ESAA, MDG was able to conserve engineering resources and prepare their RFP submission more quickly. Certification costs were also reduced. Most importantly, MDG Computers Canada Inc. was successful in winning the NMSO contract, an achievement that will give the Canadian company access to new markets and revenue streams for years to come.
