Solution
: The Workers Accident Medical Corporation (WAMC), located in Seoul, South Korea, provides medical services for individuals who are injured on the job. This state-run institution operates two hospitals: the Ansan Choongang General Hospital and the Daejeon Choongang Medical Hospital.

Before implementing 3Com technologies, the Workers Accident Medical Corporation was facing several challenges. Both hospitals were experiencing severe problems with network stability, both because of outdated equipment and increased data traffic. In addition, the hospitals were receiving poor technical support from their existing vendor. For all these reasons, WAMC decided that the best course of action would be to replace the existing network equipment at both hospitals.

After conducting intensive field tests and evaluating a number of available networking solutions, WAMC chose the 3Com Switch 8800 10-Gigabit level large-capacity switch as its backbone switch and the 3Com Switch 4200 as its workgroup switch. Each hospital deployed two units of the 3Com Switch 8800 and 15 units of the 3Com Switch 4200 28-Port.

WAMC’s deployment of 3Com’s switches has benefited both hospitals in several ways. The 3Com switches were successfully configured into a fault-tolerant system at a reasonable cost, allowing for fail-safe networking. 3Com’s high performance switches have improved online transaction processing, even during high traffic periods. The switches also support two-way data transfers, effectively doubling the bandwidth of the system.

Finally, system maintenance and management costs have been reduced because the 3Com equipment is so user friendly and easy to manage. All of these benefits mean smoother network operations, which ultimately translate into better service and care for WAMC’s patients.
