Solution: Special Needs Nursing – Corner Stone (SNNCS) specializes in providing contract nursing services for those with special needs, including the elderly and the mentally challenged. SNNCS currently serves seven communities in the Tennessee area.

The challenge faced by this organization was that they needed a more reliable and scalable computer network. The existing IT environment was quite outdated, consisting of numerous individual workstations with few to no network connections. Due to the lack of server and network infrastructure, users had to use cellular wireless broadband cards to access the Internet. Because they do not have IT professionals on staff, SNNCS needed a comprehensive and easy to maintain technology solution.

To address their issues, SNNCS worked with IBM Business Partner Kenner Consulting, LLC, to deploy the IBM Lotus Foundations Start software appliance. Features of this solution include a built-in firewall, robust anti-virus and anti-spam protection, and backup and recovery capabilities. Kenner Consulting was able to install and configure the appliance in less than four hours. In just an hour and a half, this IBM Business Partner connected all individual workstations to the domain, installed IBM Lotus Notes software, and transferred workstation documents to the server.

IBM’s technology has benefited SNNCS in numerous ways. Using IBM Lotus Domino Web Access software and virtual private network (VPN) connections, employees can now access the applications and services they need, regardless of where they are located. The appliance's security features have made the organization’s network much safer. The solution implemented by SNNCS is a comprehensive one offering a low total cost of ownership. The low-maintenance system automatically handles many important IT tasks, including data backup, so that SNNCS can focus on their business. Finally, the system is scalable to support the company's immediate and future growth.
