Solution: The Alaska Legislative Affairs Agency provides networking and IT support to the 500 employees of the Alaska State Legislature. It wanted a low-cost highly secure network solution that would function efficiently no matter where or how the user was connected to the network.

The firewall portion of the solution consisted of Juniper's NetScreen – 5XT appliances, chosen because they offered a fast, safe and reliable VPN tunnel between remote sites and the main Juneau office. The SSL VPN device installed in the Juneau office was a Juniper Networks NetScreen – SA 1005, which allows users to access the legislature’s network from any standard web browser. The result made it easier to monitor and update information. There was enhanced access from remote sites and the level of security has been greatly improved. Operational costs have been lowered.
