Solution: Border States Electric provides a wide range of products and services for the construction, utilities, data communications and industrial sectors. It needed a new flexible ERP solution to support its strategic acquisitions strategy. The legacy software was highly specialized and difficult to modify. A more flexible solution would make it easier to integrate acquisitions and drive efficiencies. The solution included an ERP application from SAP on the IBM Power Systems platform with IBM I, and later, IBM System X and IBM BladeCenter platforms. This solution was integrated with third-party applications and the company's IBM WebSphere Portal implementation. As a result of the technology, sales have increased by 300 percent and profits rose by an estimated 500 percent.
