IBM Prods Oracle Migration with Financing Perk

Vendor offers Oracle customers free cost analysis, technical evaluation, training lab comparisons.

IBM Corp. said that its Global Financing arm is offering zero percent financing to entice Oracle Corp.’s Database and WebLogic customers to move to its DB2 and WebSphere software.

The vendor also is offering Oracle customers a free financial analysis to demonstrate cost savings from switching platforms, a customized technical evaluation and conversion plan at no charge, 100 online and in-person training courses and a proof-of-concept, side-by-side cost performance comparison with clients at an IBM Software Lab.

IBM’s financing offer does not require a hardware purchase, extends zero percent financing for 12 months, followed by competitive 24- and 36-month rates, officials said.

"We can help make the move to IBM Software extremely affordable with zero percent financing," said Marcelo Lema, IBM Global Financing, general manager, client financing.

"Financing enables clients to use limited cash resources to run their business, while making it easy and cost effective to migrate to industry leading enterprise software," he said.

IBM claimed that in 2010, more than 1,000 Oracle Database clients migrated to DB2 and more than 400 Oracle WebLogic clients moved to WebSphere.

"Clients are looking to IBM Software as an attractive alternative to forced migrations, uncertain product roadmaps, waning levels of support and rising licensing costs," said Bernie Spang, IBM Software, director, strategy. "
