Carousel Industries of North America Inc., a $200 million, Exeter, RI-based IT solutions provider specializing in data networking and unified communications, said that it will acquire the assets of Juma Technology Corp., an IT systems integrator of converged voice and data networks.

Juma Technology operates as a business unit of Juma Corp., a publicly-held provider of IP Convergence solutions based in Farmingdale, NY. Nectar Services Corp., Juma’s network monitoring and management software unit, is not tied to the acquisition.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The companies said that the transaction is subject to certain approvals and is expected to close within weeks.

The acquisition is Carousel’s second this year—last month it bought TAC Centre, a Westwood, MA-based provider of communications solutions—and sixth in the last two years.

With the deal, Carousel adds to its capabilities in convergence, IP telephony and networking, gains Juma’s customer base in the northeast and its staff of engineers in network management, pre-sales support, programming and network design services, official said.

"Our acquisition of Juma Technology plays to Carousel Industries' core strengths in networking and convergence, while expanding our geographic footprint," said Jeff Gardner, Carousel chief executive.

"The company's track record of growth -- despite economic uncertainty in the market -- is nothing short of remarkable,” he said. “Their ability to attract and retain loyal, enterprise clients despite their relatively small size is also very impressive."

Juma Technology, which delivers convergence solutions mainly to enterprise customers in the retail, health care, education and financial markets, has about 350 customers, company officials said.

"We are enthusiastic about this acquisition and believe it is a very positive development for Juma Technology’s entire customer base," said Anthony M. Servidio, Juma chief executive.

Carousel employs about 800 people in 17 offices in the U.S., 250 of which are service technicians. The company said it has more than 5,000 customers.

In addition to its position as a top Avaya partner, Carousel also maintains high level channel partner status with Juniper Networks Inc., Extreme Networks Inc., American Power Conversion Corp. and Microsoft Corp.
