Avnet Names Gerry Fay as Chief Logistics and Operations Officer

Avnet Inc. said last week that it has named Gerry Fay to chief logistics and operations officer, effective as of July 4, 2011. Fay also has been named to Avnet's Executive Board and will report to Rick Hamada, Avnet president and chief operating officer.

He will replace Jim Smith, who has headed up Avnet's logistics operation since 2000 and is retiring at the end of this year.

Fay is a veteran of 16 years in the electronics industry, coming to Avnet through its acquisition of Memec Holdings Group Ltd., an electronics distributor, in 2005. He has been serving as Avnet's senior vice president, global strategic accounts. Avnet credits him with creating the company's Velocity global supply-chain practice and as a key member of its Electronics Marketing senior executive team.

In his new role, Fay will assume executive responsibility for Avnet Logistics' global warehousing, semiconductor programming and integration center services, and will continue in his current role, leading Avnet Velocity, Avnet's global supply-chain practice. He also will oversee enterprise risk management and the corporate operational excellence function and resources.
"Gerry is a highly adaptable leader who has handled a range of large scale, complex projects, such as the successful integration of Avnet's recently acquired company, Bell Microproducts, in the Americas," said Hamada. "He's a respected leader who thrives on developing others and building winning teams."
