TecDirect, Online Provider of IT Field Techs to Channel Partners, Doubles Client Base in First Year

TecDirect, a Chicago, IL-based online provider of service technicians launched in January, 2010, said that in its first year of operations it had doubled its customer base and work order volume.

The company offers access to a network of 8,000 IT field technicians and positions itself as a resource for service techs to locate opportunities and work directly with customers needing IT assistance.

TecDirect markets its online service free to solution providers, OEMs, system integrators, hardware VARS, service providers and other channel partners. The company is a spin-off of Smart Source Inc., a provider of permanent and temporary IT technical staffing to OEMs, system integrators, VARs, service providers and independent IT firms.

"One of the things we like best about TecDirect is that we can interview candidates before assigning them to a work order," said Luke Ford, chief executive at My Computer Works, a Scottsdale, Arizona-based provider of PC support to small businesses.

"We have a choice on which candidate performs the work rather than being forced to work with the first one to respond, which is the approach other online services follow," he said. "TecDirect provides three candidates so we can pick the best one to meet our customers' needs."
