Tech Data Names New Channel Marketing Executive, Initiates New Demand Generation Effort

Distributor Tech Data Corp. said that it has hired Michael E. Donner as its vice president, marketing services, with primary responsibilities to lead its TDAgency advertising and marketing arm.

The TDAgency offers advertising, public relations, marketing and sales support to the distributor's suppliers and channel partners. Tech Data said that the agency mines actionable data from its 150,000 product lines, 125,000 channel partners worldwide, and sales transactions totaling some $88 million per day.

Tech Data said that the agency has initiated a new series of solution-based demand generation programs tailored to certain vertical markets, including health care, government and education. The effort surrounds solutions such as client systems, data center, digital signage and projectors, document imaging, retail, security, and unified communications and collaboration, as well as Apple Computer Inc.'s products and services.

The demand creation programs, which will be officially launched on February 1, 2011, are expected to help channel partners and vendors expand their reach, quicken their sales close rate and boost revenue volume from small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprises, officials said.

"The TDAgency is ideally positioned to help its vendor partners strategically market and expand their product and services distribution and reach in the United States," Tech Data said, in a statement.

Joe Quaglia, Tech Data senior vice president, U.S. marketing, said that Donner's "experience and insight will enable Tech Data to provide the industry's most efficient, effective and best-in-class channel marketing services to the world's leading technology companies."

Prior to joining Tech Data, Donner served as Capgemini's vice president, global head, demand generation, Eclipsys Corp.'s senior vice president and chief marketing officer and held similar positions at Telelogic, Solectron Corp. and the e-security unit at Thales Group.

"TDAgency's reach and broad client base is unmatched and presents a tremendous marketing and demand-generation opportunity," Donner said.

He said that the demand generation programs only recently had been unveiled to Tech Data's core vendor partners and will be more broadly rolled out in the coming months. Campaigns are developed in conjunction with specific vendors based on market demands, Donner said.
