Tech Data Grows Health Care Business

Tech Data Corp. said that it has grown its health care business by more than 100 percent in the first six months of this year, according to Barb Miller, the distributor's vice president, services.

"Since establishing our Healthcare Specialized Business Unit a year ago, we have successfully positioned resellers and vendors to increase their IT solution sales to healthcare providers nationwide," said Miller.

She said that the 300 members of the distributor's TechMed Alliance have nearly doubled their sales this year through Tech Data.

Since launching its health care-focused business unit one year ago, the distributor has initiated a program called TechMed Vendor Affiliate, which teams providers of health care technology solutions with channel partners selling products and services to medical practitioners and organizations, and dedicated space within its technology solutions center to showcase health care IT offerings from a variety of suppliers.

It also has landed a number of new deals, including one with Greenway Medical Technologies Inc., a Carrollton, GA-based health care technology solutions provider that offers a suite designed to streamline operations for medical providers.

Sage North America Healthcare Division, a Tampa, FL-based provider of practice management systems, EHR and services to some 80,000 physicians, was the first company to join Tech Data's affiliate program.

More recently, Tech Data has inked distribution deals with JAOtech, headquartered in the U.K., and LuxNex Technology Inc., based in Los Angeles, CA, for health care solutions.

Through its health care business unit, Tech Data will carry JAOtech's complete line of Smart Terminal patient bedside computers. The terminals provide doctors and nurses with secure access to EHR solutions, and deliver IPTV, Web and VoIP services for patient entertainment.

LuxNex offers energy-efficient LED fixtures and bulbs that resellers can install in health care facilities to help customers cut costs through energy savings.

Tech Data recently held its Healthcare Partner Summit in Las Vegas, NV to discuss strategies to capitalize on demand for IT solutions in the health care market.
