Intel Adds Symantec's Backup Exec 2010 to ESAA Lineup
Intel Corp. said that it will add Symantec Corp.'s Backup Exec 2010 to its Enabled Solutions Acceleration Alliance (ESSA) lineup, a storehouse of pre-validated solutions jointly developed by the chip maker and independent hardware and software vendors.
Symantec's Backup Exec 2010 will be available from distributors to Intel's network of system builder partners in North America by the end of this year, officials said.
Intel said that it will offer nine different versions of the Backup Exec 2010 software, each of which has been tested on Intel servers. The software includes a year of 24x7 support.
"Symantec Backup Exec 2010 seamlessly integrates virtual machine protection, deduplication and archiving technology to help small and medium-sized businesses reduce their backup windows and storage consumed without adding complexity to their environment," said Mike Garcia, Symantec director, product management, OEM.
The Backup Exec 2010 units offered under the ESAA will support Microsoft Corp.'s Windows, Small Business Server, Exchange, SQL and Hyper-V, VMware Inc.'s vSphere and suites with deduplication support.
Intel's ESAA program sports 34 pre-tested hardware and software solutions intended to cut channel partners' implementation costs and speed time to market.
Membership in the ESAA is limited to Intel direct OEMs and premier and associate level participants in the vendor's channel partner program.

The deal to include Backup Exec 2010 in the ESAA was first outlined in an Intel communities blog late last week.
