HP Offers New Low-Cost Digital Signage Solution for SMBs
Hewlett-Packard Co. said last week that it will offer a new, low-cost, easy-to-use line of digital signage players aimed at small- and medium-sized businesses to deploy in a single location or across a small network.
The HP SignagePlayer mp8000s, an ultra-slim desktop unit, and the mp8000r, a small form factor model, will help SMBs to "quickly and affordably deploy full-featured digital signage solutions," said Bob Rosenberry, HP manager, Visual Solutions, Retail Solutions Global Business Unit.
Rosenberry said that the new players will bring "professional digital signage within reach for businesses large and small."
The SignagePlayers feature slide show and video looping capabilities and can handle layouts with images, text, Adobe Flash, RSS feeds and interactive content. Both models are equipped with pre-installed Scala QuickStart software that allows fast, easy set-up, and offers a simple visual interface for creating, managing and scheduling information on the players.
The devices, available next month in North America, the U.K., and the Netherlands, are priced at $1,079 for the mp8000r model and $1,119 for the mp8000s unit.
HP unveiled its SignagePlayers two days before Intel Corp., Microsoft Corp. and NEC Corp. announced an alliance to deliver a next generation digital signage platform using cloud computing services to prompt innovation and technology integration.
