Pareto Networks Names New Top Executive, Offers Channel Partner Program

Pareto Networks Inc., a Sunnyvale, CA-headquartered provider of cloud-based networking, said that it has hired Daniel Ryan as president and chief executive, a month after initiating a channel partner program.

Ryan, who previously served as McAfee Inc.'s executive vice president and general manager, network security business, said that he was "drawn to Pareto's unique position to drive complexity and large capital investments out of the network and accelerate an enterprise's ability to securely scale their distributed network."

Pareto, which launched operations in 2007, offers enterprise cloud services aimed at streamlining networking and security in corporate branch offices, using a pay-as-you-go subscription model starting at $228 per location, per year, for up to 30 users.

The idea is to manage networking functions and associated security to branch offices and remote locations through the cloud. Accordingly, the Pareto Branch Gateway--of which there are three models based on an end customer's needs--offers remote management through the vendor's cloud for functions such as VoIP, video, IP address management, SSL VPN tunnels, authentication and Web security.

"It's not every day you have the opportunity to revolutionize an industry," Ryan said. "It's been almost 15 years since networking underwent any serious change and I am excited to be at the company leading the charge," he said.

Ryan brings a substantial background to his position at Pareto. He previously served as Secure Computing's president and chief executive, moving to McAfee when it acquired Secure in 2008. Prior to Secure, he was senior vice president of enterprise content management products at Oracle Corp.

Last month, Pareto rolled out a new channel partner program, offering solution providers a quick entry into the cloud market.

The program is tiered by two levels, appropriately termed Stratus and Cirrus, and offers training, sales and marketing tools and other resources to help channel partners work their way into a recurring revenue model.

Pareto said that it has signed Computerlinks North America, an IT security and Internet technology solutions distributor based in Austin, TX, to carry its products, recruit partners, host training sessions and assist partners in day-to-day business operations.
