And Still Another Channel Acquisition...
Acquisitions in the channel space continue at a fast pace. The latest involves Avocent, a global provider of IT infrastructure management solutions for enterprise data centers and a strong channel player. The company has completed its acquisition of Touchpaper Group Ltd., a privately held U.K.-based provider of IT management solutions.
Additionally, Avocent plans to acquire Ergo 2000, a provider of rack-mounted LCD-based consoles based in Southern California. Company officials say the moves will help Avocent deliver on its promise of enabling businesses to simplify the increasingly complex task of managing data centers and desktop assets. The company basically is positoning to provide an end-to-end IT operations management framework. These new deals help it achieve that goal.
Avocent is a strong channel player. The company markets its branch, data center and desktop infrastructure products through a reseller program (for the SMB market), a solution provider program (for the data center partners) and an alliance program (for ISVs and system integrators.)
Once again, an example of how a channel company can bolster its market position through strategic acquisitions within a slowing economic framework. Avocent, a publicly traded company, is using its own cash and line of credit to fund the deals.
